Emails : E-mail boxes of Placement Firms tend to get full frequently. Don’t assume that the e-mail address is wrong - TRY AGAIN. Mass emailing of your resume must be done with a focus. Many Placement Consultants prefer other methods of contact. Like, hard copies of resumes, personal visits or a telephone call. Keep that in mind. In case you email your resume follow up with another mail or a telephone call to confirm that your resume has reached. It’s best to keep your job hunting private. If you are sending your resume to more than one Placement Firm, DO NOT USE CC.

Instead, use BCC (in your Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook). Remember, no Placement Firm likes to feel that they are dealing with a mass circulated resume. Never ever change your email address, unless under extreme duress. Placement Firms get back to you whenever they have a vacancy, which may not necessarily be when you want them to.  Leave your lines of communication intact.

Identifying a Placement Firm:  Value judgments are highly avoidable. Judging the quality of a Placement Firm by the age of a company or the number telephones, emails and branch offices can be misleading. After all, what counts is a good vacancy that suits your needs when you need it.  So, even if a Placement Firm is small, or new, or unimpressive in any other way, it is quite possible they may have the dream opening you are looking for. Be methodical in covering as many placement firms that cover your specialization. Also remember to comb through the ones that cover all categories and industries. You may want to job only in Delhi or in Mumbai, but that does not imply you talk to Placement Consultant only in that city.  It’s quite possible a Placement Firm in Mumbai is handling a vacancy in Delhi,  or a placement firm in Delhi is handling a vacancy in Mumbai.  You must contact Consultants on an all India basis, to get your choice of job in a specific city or location.

Follow Up :  Placement Firms usually handle a large volume of resumes. So, it is quite natural that they may not remember you till you are needed.  Also, many are not computerized or even organized.  A follow up by telephone or email is advisable.

Job Portals : Websites tend be impersonal, unless they want to charge you for something. The trick is to keep going back regularly and hunting through the sections that interest you.
